Disability Awareness

Disability awareness is an important part of establishing inclusion for people with disability. Often our fears and discomfort about interacting with people with disability are based on lack of knowledge, uncertainties, and stereotypes that can influence our attitudes. The more informed we are, the more comfortable we will feel communicating and interacting with someone with a disability at work, in education and training or in the community.

Individuals with disability experience restricted access to formal vocational education and training (VET) and employment opportunities in Vietnam, in part because VET colleges and employers are not aware of how they can make reasonable adjustments, which are often quite small, in order to provide individuals with disability with equitable access to training and employment opportunities and outcomes.

Building the understanding and confidence of VET educators in supporting students with disability throughout their VET studies is key to supporting inclusion. How courses are developed, delivered and assessed can have a big impact on students’ experiences and educational outcomes. Promoting accessibility, reducing barriers to learning and responding to the needs of individuals with disability can greatly influence student success.

VET Educators Supporting Students with Disability is an eLearning Course that has been specifically designed for VET Educators. The course focuses on promoting a range of practices such as universal design for learning and reasonable adjustments, to support the development and implementation of inclusive delivery and assessment strategies which are responsive to the needs and requirements of students with disability.

This eLearning Course has been developed as part of the Australian Government initiative, National Disability Coordination Officer (NDCO) Program and the Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training (ADCET), and are free. The Vietnamese version of this eLearning Course is an Australian aid initiative implemented by Aus4Skills Program on behalf of the Australian Government.
